DETAILS

This Digital iPod Interface by Peripheral/PAC/iSimple is a state of the art product that allows you to directly connect your iPod (see list below) to the auxiliary input port of your factory radio. The cable that connects this to your radio is a T-harness, so it has a plug to allow you, in most cases, to retain a factory auxiliary input currently connected to the radio.

As delivered, this comes with a 30-pin iPod cable that allows connection of many Apple devices. If you have one of the newer devices with the Lightning connector, you will either have to add a 30-pin to Lightning adapter from the Apple Store or add our IPBT-30 Bluetooth receiver that connects to the 30-pin plug and lets you stream audio. (If you are thinking about the Apple adapter, be sure to read the reviews on the Apple website before purchasing. They aren't good. This interface works the way it should with 30-pin Apple products. If you choose to use it with a Lightning adapter and find it doesn't work well, that is not a defect with this interface. It is a problem with the adapter you are trying to use to modify this system and it would not be covered under warranty.) If you are interested in our IPBT-30, it is an available option in the UPGRADES section below.

This product operates in satellite (SAT) emulation mode.  Further, it has two control modes as well: basic and advanced.  In SAT emulation mode, this works with satellite-ready radios only (must have an AM SAT button).  Playlist, track name, artist and album name are displayed on satellite-ready radios when you are in advanced control mode and you operate the interface from the radio.  This includes: track up/down, playlist selection, shuffle modes, scan and repeat.  Some control is also enabled for the steering wheel controls.  If you are in basic control mode, the only feature you can control from the radio is the volume.  All other control is from the iPod itself.  Text is not displayed on the radio in basic mode.  (See the section below, entitled Understanding Emulation and Operation, if you still have questions.)

The ISBT21 Bluetooth interface allows you to directly connect your Bluetooth-ready phone. On one end it connects to the PXAMG Gateway (included) and, on the other, there is a microphone that you will mount on your visor (or some other common sense location.) It uses one of the two inputs you're allowed on the Gateway.

To make or receive a call, you simply enter satellite radio mode on your radio. (For most radios, this is as simple as a press of a button.) Then you'll hear the call audio through the car radio and the included microphone will pick up your end of the conversation. Caller ID information is displayed on the radio if you are in satellite mode. Even if you aren't in satellite mode when a call comes in, you can always switch to satellite mode before you answer. In fact, you will have to do this to use this product. If you try to answer without being in satellite mode, it will disconnect and will not function.

You can also listen to music from your iPhone through the Bluetooth device using the A2DP streaming*. This is handy if you want to use the other input port on the Gateway for some other device. (Sirius, HD Radio or Aux Input)

The Bluetooth portion of this kit is guaranteed to be compatible with all iPhones. (* However, the 1st Generation iPhone does not support A2DP Streaming Audio.) It has not been tested extensively with any other phones because there is too much variety to make sure it works with everything. However, it should work with all other Bluetooth phones that support A2DP and HFP (Hands Free Profiles) because it was developed using Bluetooth standards. If the Bluetooth feature isn't working, first try a different phone. If that phone works, the problem is the first phone, not this kit. If it doesn't work with any Bluetooth phones, contact us via email to start the Tech Support and/or exchange process.

Unlike competitor's products, this includes an auxiliary (aux) input cable so you can add another device. (mp3 player, satellite radio, CD changer, DVD player, etc). You can choose from RCA jacks OR a stereo mini plug. Or, use the port to add something cooler, like HD Radio (with the HDRT tuner package - not included) or Sirius satellite with the SCC1 tuner and ISSR11 cable (neither are included) or XM with the SXV200 tuner and ISSR12 cable (neither are included.) You cannot, however, have more than two sources connected at the same time. The Bluetooth and iPod each count as a source, so you would have to fore-go use of one of those two connections to free up a port for HD Radio, Sirius radio, XM radio or a standard auxiliary input. (Although you could fore-go use of the iPod cable and utilize the A2DP streaming feature of Bluetooth to stream the songs wirelessly from an iPhone, which would free up one port for another use.)  If you want to add Sirius, XM or HD Radio, we encourage you to go to the Satellite Radio or HD Radio listings to read more about these products before you select one.  There are many details about the optional components that are not addressed in this ad.

PLEASE NOTE: We update these interfaces with the latest iSimple firmware before they ship.  This is important because it ensures you get the latest features, fixes and application updates.  Why take a chance getting an older version, only to find you need to buy a cable, fire up your computer, download some software and figure out how to update it just so it actually works with your vehicle and/or does what it's supposed to do?  Save time, money and aggravation and buy from ReplacementRadios instead.

Understanding Emulation and Operation

Emulation refers to the method the interface uses to communicate with the radio:
  • SAT emulation mode 'tricks' the radio into thinking a satellite tuner is attached.  The interface takes advantage of the radio's ability to receive text from a satellite tuner, so SAT emulation mode will show text on the radio screen.  Obviously SAT emulation mode is more robust than CDC emulation mode but it only works on radios that are satellite ready.
  • In CDC emulation mode (not an option for this product because of the requirements of the Bluetooth kit), the radio is 'tricked' into thinking there is remote CD Changer attached.  CD Changers operate based on disc and track numbers.  There is no text.  This is why there is just basic skipping back and forth between songs when in CDC emulation mode.  The radio sees it as skipping to the next song on a CD.  Not all radios are satellite capable.  That's why CDC emulation mode was added.  It allows for compatibility in a greater number of vehicles.  But it only works with radios capable of controlling a remote CD Changer.
Operation mode refers to the method you use to control the iPod
  • Basic operation mode uses the controls you are already familiar with.  Those on the iPod itself.  This mode just transmits sound to the radio.  There is no text displayed on the radio and there is no control from the radio, other than volume. This is regardless of what emulation mode you are in.
  • Advanced operation mode allows control from the radio and steering wheel buttons.  More than just volume.  Text is also passed to satellite capable radios for display on the screen.  The iPod is 'locked' in Advanced operation mode, meaning you can only use the radio or steering wheel controls.  If you want to use the iPod controls, you must switch to Basic operation mode.
