The Peripheral PXDX & PXHFD3 Ford auxiliary input adapter package allows you to interface an external audio source with your factory radio. On one end, it plugs into the 20-pin auxiliary plug (normally used for a CD changer) and, on the other, it provides RCA inputs OR a stereo mini jack (headphone). Use it to add a non-factory CD changer, an MP3 player (like an iPod or Zune), satellite radio, DVD audio, etc. A direct connection is far superior to the sound quality you get using a cheap RF modulated (antenna) or cassette adapter device. Connection of power and ground wires will be required.
This is for radios commonly referred to as 'World' plug. (16 and 20 pin plugs that are black and red.) Your radio must be capable of controlling a remote CD Changer. As a general rule, most radios with built in 6 disc changer (CD6) and this plug do NOT have remote CD Changer controls, so you would not be able to use this. Any device currently plugged into the 20-pin auxiliary input (CD Changer, DVD player, satellite radio, etc) will need to be disconnected for use of this product.
Steering wheel controls will operate volume for this device. You will also be able to control volume from the radio. This device does NOT display text on your radio. Most Ford radios with this plug design were not capable of accepting text input through the auxiliary plug (unless the radio has a SAT button) so don't waste your time looking for another alternative that has text capability if you don't have a SAT button. There isn't one. This is IT!

* Some 1998 models had different plugs. You must have a 16-pin and a 20-pin plug to use this product. You must also have CD Changer controls on the face of the radio.
** Not all Ford radios had the changer port. If you do not have the 20 pin plug on the back of your radio and CD changer capability, you cannot use this product.
^ Some vehicles marked with this symbol were offered with the new gray Phase 2 plugs. If you have one of these vehicles and your plugs are gray instead of black, this product will not work for you. An example of the correct plug for this device is shown here. It is the one on the left.
NOTE: For proper operation of this product, the factory CD changer, if present, will need to be disconnected from the factory harness. Also, many in-dash CD6 radios are not capable of controlling a remote changer. The radio needs to have this functionality in order for this product to work.
